Summer 2013:

We are offering Feastrex cabinet style to take all pre-March 2013 5" Feastrex drivers.  (Recently, the driver designs were changed to the "alpha type" and  we will be able to make cabinets for them as soon as we get our own set of the alpha types).

The only thing that a 9" cabinet model is waiting for is a pair of 9" drivers to work with, actually.  We are willing to offer discounted labor rates for someone willing to loan their set of 9" drivers to us during the development phase.

Our Cabinets

There probably is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all Feastrex cabinet.  For drivers this nuanced, and with so many model choices (and potential voltages in the field coil power supply), we must only be willing to build a custom cabinet per each driver pair and customers' musical tastes.

If you are interested in initiating an order for a pair of Feastrex cabinets from us, your options are either to first procure a set of the drivers and begin breaking them in on your own.  Once broken in properly, you'll send your drivers to our shop for testing, custom design, and installation into the final cabinets prior to being shipped back to you as completed speakers.  Alternatively, if you'd rather that we break your drivers in for you prior to measuring them and building a cabinet to perfectly match them, then we'd be happy to perform this additional service for a small fee.

Each cabinet we build is sensitive to the specific T/S parameters of each individual pair of drivers as there are several Feastrex models that are all slightly different, and there were also some minor changes made to the cones through the years.   But the main point is that speaker drivers this powerful must be tuned carefully to the cabinets they'll live in because their power has a tendency to amplify any anomolies in the response of the cabinet/driver interface, especially in the bass range.  There just isn't a "fudge factor" like there is in commonplace speaker drivers.

If you need advice on which Feastrex model is right for you, I'd be happy to advise.  I've heard (and helped assemble cones, magnets, and power supplies for) every model that Feastrex makes and have heard each model in a variety of cabinets of both my own and others' construction.  My current choice is a simple, well tuned and well braced bass reflex cabinet.   Its just like the Orcas but bigger, and even more rock-solid.

Feastrex sent me home from my apprenticeship in 2009 with the pair of NF5ex drivers that I assembled from start to finish (under careful supervision).  These drivers have passed all sorts of extreme tests that only someone as young and naive as I am would even dream of putting them through and they are still running strong.  However, they were recently reconed in late 2012 in order to match the slightly newer style of whizzer they were using (but still pre-alpha).  These new cones (and the old ones, for that matter) sound fantastic.

Raw Feastrex drivers range in price from ~$4000/pr. to $69,000/pr (for the Type III, all permendur field coil).  They can be purchased new from The Audio Feast and they also occasionally come up in the used market.

My favorite driver models are the D5nf, NF5ex, NF5ex PIP, D5e Type III, D9nf, NF9ex, NF9ex PIP, and D9e Type III.

Our custom cabinet options range in price significantly depending upon the materials choices.  We can make cabinets that are to be used both with and without subwoofers. Bookshelf and floorstanding sizes as well.  Please email us the driver model you own or are interested in purchasing, the target frequency range, and we can give you a specific quote.  Again - serious inquiries only, please.
